About Us

Dariush Elghanayan

I came to the U.S. in 1980 and rode with Arsia Ardalan of Caspian Stables in Ohio for 5 years where I learned the ins and outs of business and had the opportunity to travel to shows such as the Arizona Circuit, Oklahoma, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Culpepper, Indianapolis, Buffalo, Devon Gold Cup, South Hampton, and many more.

From 1980-1987 I competed in the OPHA junior/amateur jumpers on 6 different horses. I have also placed in Midwest Grand Prixs such as Kentucky individuals and Milwaukee horse shows. However, my biggest success comes from developing, showing, and selling young jumpers, competing and placing in the top 4 in the IJF as well as young horse finals at the Gold Cup, and Kentucky Horse Shows.

I was lucky enough to learn from some of the best, including Bernie Traurig and Jeffrey Welles. I was also one of Chris Kappler’s (Olympic medalist) first students. He had a truly methodical top riding style and a strong emphasis on proper course walking and ensuring you don't leave anything to chance.

Owner and Trainer of D.E. Show Stable

In 1977, I was individual junior jumper champion in Iran. After this I rode in Ireland with international horse dealer Harold Lusk for two years. His top international rider, Harry Marshall, who spent several years training under Paul Schockemöhle of Germany, graciously took me under his wing and taught me German flat work, horse sales, and going to international shows such as Dublin, Hickstead, and Olympia in England.

During this time I represented Ulster county at the national pony team championship in Dublin. I produced 3 clean rounds and was on the winning team. At the same show under the tutelage of James Kernan (top international Irish rider) I was able to place successfully in the speed classes. In 1979 I competed at Hickstead, England in the pony championships and had the pleasure of watching Eddie Macken win his 4th derby on Boomerang. I also competed in the pony European championships in Soder, West Germany and was winner of the individuals class as well as best style rider. As a junior jumper I was second at Balmoral Horse Show in Ireland consequently qualifying to compete at the Dublin and Milstream Horse shows.

I have owned and operated D.E. Show Stable since 1987 with the help of my father and wife.  My students have been winners and successful in the 1.0m-1.40m jumpers, top level hunters, equitation, and hunter derbies throughout the country, qualifying for Harrisburg, Washington, and Capital Challenge for numerous years. I currently train horses and riders for jumpers, hunters, and equitation on the rated show circuit.
